As most of you will know our themes for the year were Titanic, Charles Dickens, London 2012 and The Diamond Jubilee. Here we bring together a selection of videos that represent the best of each occasion!
The Titanic was a tragedy on a grand scale, and it still resonates with people in the modern era. Our Titanic 100th Anniversary 2012 Alderney coin featured a dramatic and poignant design to mark the anniversary of Titanic’s fateful voyage.
The sinking of the Titanic was recreated in digital form in 2012 by James Cameron and his team. The results are compelling viewing.
The 200th Anniverary of Charles Dickens captured the imagination of the nation. Our 200th Anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens UK £2 coin boasts a remarkable and inventive reverse design by Matthew Dent
His novels are synonymous with British life, and The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the bicentenary of his birth.
London 2012 was a truly landmark event for Great Britain. Our extensive collection of London 2012 coins were some of the most popular designs we have ever made.
The Opening ceremony is the obvious choice for inclusion here, but our particular favourite was the BBC’s video montage that seemed to communicate everything modern Britain has to offer.
The Diamond Jubilee
The Diamond Jubilee was a huge moment for the Royal family and for The Royal Mint. We produced a beautiful double portrait on The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Official UK £5 coin and a collection of limited edition presentations and collections that collectors worldwide have enjoyed.
Only the second Royal Diamond Jubilee in history, it is an event that we are never likely to see again in our lifetimes. The world’s eyes were on us and we put on a show that could only happen in Great Britain.
The video tells this story better than I can!
2012 A very special year
