Strike your very own Sherlock Holmes™ 50p coin at The Royal Mint Experience

For a limited time only, those visiting The Royal Mint Experience will have the exciting opportunity to strike their very own Sherlock Holmes Brilliant Uncirculated 50p coin. This year also marks the 160th anniversary of the birth of the author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, so this is the perfect opportunity to celebrate Conan Doyle’s most famous work, Sherlock Holmes and also take home a unique memento of your visit to The Royal Mint Experience.

When Sherlock Holmes first appeared in 1887 in A Study in Scarlet, the public quickly grew to adore the detective. Since then the famous fictional character has inspired countless films, video games, radio plays and TV series.

The Sherlock Holmes 50p  features the sleuth’s profile, complete with pipe and deerstalker and also includes the names of his most popular adventures. An interesting element of the design is that Stephen Raw, designer of the coin, chose to create a design that requires a magnifying glass to read the names of these famous cases. You can find out more about the inspiration behind Stephen’s design here.

It has always been extremely popular with coin collectors to strike their own coin and with Sherlock Holmes being one of the world’s most famous fictional characters we know that the opportunity to strike your own Sherlock Holmes 50p coin will be equally as appealing amongst coin collectors or even just to those who admire Conan Doyle’s work or are fans of the detective.
